Stained Glass Windows

Grade level: 2

Students created a stained glass effect by drawing with glue and then coloring with chalk pastels.  The pastels were blended with their hands and paper tissue.  

Objectives were to break down images into simple form to create stained glass images, create segments and fill with blocks of color to represent each object and blend colors to fill cells and create visual interest.

Found object: Calder / Miro Wall Sculpture

Grade level: 3Students created a collage including texture and 3-D elements to add depth and visual interest.

Objectives were to differentiate between 2-Dememsionial & 3-Dimensional forms, create an interesting visual space by incorporating shape and form thus creating a focal point and use add color to make the design more dynamic by using emphasis.

Introduction to Clay: Texture Pots

Grade level: 7

Students created a hollow form box using clay and various texture tools and random objects.  The students also had to give their box a purpose prior to construction.  The colors where chosen from discussed color schemes.  Each student was required to make their own texture tool and was encouraged to encorporate it in the design.

Objectives were to know the basics of clay by working with the material and using creative problem solving when needed to achieve a successful vessel, learn about historical content and common uses today through discussion and question and answer sessions and will learn the elements: line,  shape and texture by incorporating them into their designs.

Reliquaries: Slab Box Construction

Grade level: 10-12

Students designed and formed reliquaries from their own specific drawings and research. Each box reliquary was created with individual intent and the artist had to consider surface, color and potential design issues during the slab construction. 

Objectives were to learn new clay slab technique by creating a reliquary box using learn construction method, focus on relating surface design to the context of the shrine and sketch and knowledgably create work by planning it before they start working in the medium.

 Thematic Teapots

Grade level: 10-12

Students created a thematic teapot as their culminating project in the 3-D ceramics program.  They utilized any or all methods learned over the 3 years in the program and constructed teapots that could be used for pouring.  The vessel had to be water tight in the holding area and the spouts had to pour.  Some were painted, which was an option, and they are for non-utilitarian purposes. 

Objectives were to plan appropriate hand building techniques for proper construction, design lid, handle and spout to be part of the overall design as well as functional throughout the tea-pot design and to utilize additive and subtractive sculpture methods to create aesthetically pleasing form.

House for Haiti: art pins service project

Grade level: All

Objectives were to helps give back to the community at large by creating, selling and donating 100% of the profits to a charity that benefits Haitian Relief, use collage and assemblage technique from old magazines and paper and learn about the devastation to Haiti that occurred during last year’s earthquake and most recently the flooding from Hurricane Thomas.Haiti Houses web page
